“Public Truth Recovery: Memory, Justice and Conflict Transformation”
Panelists: Drs. Patricia Lundy (U. of Ulster), Mark McGovern (Edge Hill U.)
Dr. Patricia Lundy of the University of Ulster (Belfast) and Dr. Mark McGovern of Edge Hill University (Liverpool) will speak on truth recovery efforts in this post-conflict setting. International experts on transitional justice, they will address the challenges of reaching shared understandings through state-run and community-designed initiatives; interrogating the dominance of a legal paradigm in current policy and practice for dealing with the past. Their many publications include Ardoyne: The Untold Truth and the recently co-authored articles “A Trojan Horse? Unionism, Trust and Truth-telling in Northern Ireland,” in The International Journal of Transitional Justice and “Whose Justice? Rethinking Transitional Justice from the Bottom Up“ in the Journal of Law and Society.
