Contested Geographies/Shared Future: Mural Making in Belfast, 1972-2010
A Conversation and Slide Show with muralists Danny Devenny and Mark Ervine
Tuesday, March 30, 2010 Cape Cod Lounge, Student Union, 5-7pm, with light refreshments
Moderated by Leah Wing, Department of Legal Studies
The artists discuss their separate careers painting murals on the streets of Belfast during the conflict and how, as former adversaries, they came to paint together during the recent transition to peace. Exploring the role of murals in public space during times of war and peace building, the muralists show slides from some of the 2000 plus murals they have created. Co-sponsored by the Interdisciplinary Seminar in Humanities and Fine Arts (ISHA).
