Murals in the north of Ireland/Northern Ireland, which now number over 1700,
have played significant and differing roles within each community over the last
100 years: particularly with regards to the time period during The Troubles (1969-1998) and during the recent transition to peace. They have:
• Articulated the urgent issues of the day
• Called people to action
• Informed international public of injustices
• Defied censorship
• Reflected culture and pride
• Communicated resistance, pain, anger, hope, remembrance, and politics
